2004-2005 A.D.S. Survivor Bigger and Better!!!
|
In order to add some excitement to our ADS classes and encourage positive social interaction between 8th grade students, we have developed several challenges that encourage students to use critical thinking skills. Middle school students were placed into teams and the winning team each week will win a reward.
Take a look at our introductory powerpoint if you would like to see how we started day 1. It is available on the SURVIVOR DOWNLOADS page. |

For the first challenge students were challenged to solve 27 different riddles. The green team (Tiki Taki Lui) won by answerring 14 correctly. This picture shows students trying to figure out these riddles by drawing diagrams on our chalk boards. Here is one of the riddles. Can you figure it out? A man walked one mile south. Then he walked one mile east. Finally he walked one mile north. Surprisingly, he realized he was standing exactly where he started. Just then he was attacked by a bear. WHAT COLOR WAS THE BEAR?? Can you solve this riddle? | ![]() |
Week 2 challenge- The second survivor challenge required students to put on a theatrical performance for their peers. Students relied on the training that they had earlier in the year in Ms. Netzband's class and came up with original plays based on some of the literary themes from the books The Outsiders and from The Diary of Anne Frank. As judged by Mrs. Fancett and Ms. Tsardakas, the winners were Tiki Taki Liu and the Bling Bling Squirrels. The teams tied for first place. |
![]() Challenge 3- This week, students are required to create a snow shelter during A.D.S. classes. This project will force students to design structures using some of the knowledge that they gained in Mr. Lenard's math class. Students were given information regarding the challenge on Monday. The handout let students know that they should bring in appropriate clothing and supplies on Friday. Students were also allowed to rush outside and claim land the same way that early settlers claimed land in the west. Each team was given a flag. Students rushed to "claim" the land around large snowbanks. Students without appropriate (warm) clothing were not allowed outside. There is a powerpoint with pictures of the students and their shelters available for download on the SURVIVOR DOWNLOADS page. |
